Update on recent burglaries and vehicle crime in Sutton Coldfield |
Dear Resident We want to make you aware that we’ve seen an increase in both burglaries and vehicle crime in parts of Sutton Coldfield in recent weeks. We know this is worrying and we want to reassure you that we’re increasing patrols in the affected areas and working closely with partners to keep you safe.
A common theme in recent reports is offenders getting in through the rear of properties. Please take a moment today to check that back doors and windows are locked, and that your garden gates and garage doors are secured. If you have outside lighting or motion sensors, make sure they’re working as a well‑lit area can be enough to deter someone. If you’re heading into your home, take all valuables inside with you and avoid leaving anything in your vehicle, including handbags, devices or money. We’re also asking anyone with keyless vehicles to be extra cautious. Keep your keys away from doors and windows and consider using a Faraday pouch. These inexpensive pouches block the signal from your key fob and help prevent criminals using devices to unlock and start your vehicle without entering your home. If you notice suspicious activity in your area such as unfamiliar vehicles lingering, people trying gates, or unusual activity captured on your doorbell or CCTV, please report it to us by calling 101 or via Live Chat on our website where you can also find crime reduction advice. Officers will also be working throughout the night, carrying out stops on individuals and vehicles where there are clear grounds for concern. This is simply to help us identify anyone who may be involved in criminal activity and to make sure the community is kept safe. In an emergency or if a burglary is in progress, always dial 999. Your CCTV helps us solve crimes. You can register your CCTV or doorbell camera with us to receive alerts when your footage could help an investigation in your area. It takes just 60 seconds to add your details to our secure police system. You’ll only need to provide your name, address, email, and the number of cameras you have. Thank you for your support in helping keep the local community safe. | ||
